A Beach and Rainforest Family Yoga Retreat
with Peggy Profant and Christine McArdle Oquendo
February 18 –— 25, 2006

Immerse your family in the experience of yoga
while basking in the magic of a tropical vacation

The Retreat
Wake up to the sound of waves crashing and birds singing in the rainforest canopy above. Your children will meet with Christine for an educational, playful and heart-centered yoga class. Now, you are free to join Peggy for a lighthearted, yet meditative Anusara style yoga session. This is geared to all levels to prepare your body and mind for the glorious day ahead.

After a delicious breakfast prepared by the staffs culinary artists, you may like to explore the secluded beach where dolphin rich waters invite swimming, surfing, snorkeling and tide pooling. The surrounding, old growth rainforest offers hiking amongst a richly biodiverse jungle where monkeys, toucans and scarlet macaws abound. Learn about the rainforest's flora, fauna and ancient medicines from local experts or explore the lushness of the island on horseback. Perhaps you're called to recline in a hammock or get a massage while the children play on the beach with their new friends.

We will be greeted for lunch by the friendly chefs and in the late afternoon we will meet for another yoga session. We will enjoy a restorative practice, pranayama or partner yoga or we'll join the children for other yoga activities while the chefs prepare another delightful meal.

In the evening have a guided, nocturnal tour through the rainforest. Roast bananas over a campfire and listen to stories of the native, indigenous people or bring out the instruments for merry music making to end another beautiful day in paradise.

The Place
Guaria de Osa Rainforest-Ocean Retreat and Ethnobotanical Gardens is nestled in an emerald green, tropical rainforest along Costa Rica's Osa Peninsula surrounded by turquoise waters and pristine beaches.

Close by is Corcovado National Park, Costa Rica's crown jewel, offers waterfalls to bathe in and the tallest rainforest canopy known. A boat ride away is Caño Island Oceanic Reserve- a world class scuba diving and snorkeling site with crystal clear water, hiking trails, white sand beaches; a great place to see dolphins, turtles, sailfish and coral reefs. You may find archaeological sites throughout the island as you walk through its primary-growth forest.

Guaria de Osa, family owned and operated, offers secluded, peaceful accommodations with ocean and rainforest views tucked among palm groves. The three-storied main lodge is a breathtaking feat of architecture built entirely from reclaimed hardwoods. It offers an expansive yoga studio, library, study and massage rooms and an observatory cupola with splendid, panoramic views of the rainforest canopy and breathtaking sunsets.

The facilities and skilled staff of Guaria de Osa offer guests a timeless, serene and awe-inspiring atmosphere alongside an Osa Peninsula adventure.

About Us

Christine McArdle-Aquendo
Christine was born in NYC and was raised in Madrid, Spain. She holds a MA in education and is trained in Montessori and Waldorf methods. She has been teaching children's yoga in the Anusara style for 4 years. From her many sacred experiences with children, emerged "OM Shree OM," a teachers training program for children's yoga which she teaches throughout the US. Introducing yoga to children is among the most enlightening work that she has ever done. Christine now has two little yogis of her own and loves to lead family yoga retreats to Costa Rica and to the Sacred Valley in Peru with them!

Peggy Profant

Peggy first became passionate about yoga in 1980. She has been influenced by the teachings of various masters in the Iyengar tradition, traveled to India to immerse herself in Ashtanga Yoga and is currently pursuing certification in John Friend's teachings of Anusara Yoga. She has been an environmental educator, wilderness guide and world traveler. Upon the birth of her first child in 1997, Peggy gratefully began the internal adventures of being a mother, yoga teacher and a certified massage therapist.
