Beach and Rainforest Retreat
Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica
March 22 - 29, 2008
Family Yoga Retreat with
Myths & Legends
of the Central and South American Rainforest
World Family Yoga’s 4th retreat at Guaria
with
Christine McArdle Oquendo and Peggy Profant, Anusara Yoga Instructors
and Jonathon Miller Weisberger, ethnobotanist, story teller, steward
of Guaria de Osa.
Join
us on this exceptional spring break family yoga vacation at Guaria
de Osa nestled in an emerald green tropical rainforest along Costa
Rica's remote Osa Peninsula surrounded by warm turquoise waters
and pristine beaches. On this trip we will arrive there the Saturday
before Easter. After a breathtaking journey into the peninsula,
children can break the ice by engaging in easter egg dyeing. We
will prepare for a non-dogmatic celebration of the earth's fertility
egg hunt in the rainforest on Sunday.
On
a typical day the adults will have the option to enjoy meaningful
Anusara "Inspired" yoga instruction with Christine. The
children will also have educational experiences in nature, learn
some Spanish and be introduced to a daily meditation practice. In
the evenings adults will enjoy a deeply relaxing restorative practice
and on occasion the parents and children get together for a bonding
partner yoga experience or enjoy storytelling together.
Every
day you and your family can choose from numerous unforgettable activities
in one of our planet's most privileged settings. Take a paddle boat
ride up the Rio Claro, where you will be surrounded by the mystique
of the rainforest. Partake in the unrivaled bird watching of the
Osa Peninsula. Children who like horses will love exploring the
lushness of the peninsula and the nearby village on horseback.
There will be plenty of time to lounge in a
hammock with a book or get a massage while children are off playing
and enjoying this paradise with their community of new friends.
You may like to check out the nearby Corcovado National Park, Costa
Rica's crown jewel, that offers waterfalls to bathe in and the tallest
rainforest canopy known. A boat ride away is Cano Island Oceanic
Reserve, a world class scuba diving and snorkeling site with crystal
clear water, hiking trails, white sand beaches; a great place to
see dolphins, turtles, sailfish and coral reefs. You may find archaeological
sites throughout the island as you walk through its primary-growth
forest. Guaria's local expert, Jonathon Miller, specializes in ethnobotany
and will delight in telling you and your children all about the
rainforest's flora, fauna and ancient medicines.
Innovative Children's Yoga with Experienced Instructors
Christine
is a pioneer in the world of teaching children’s yoga. She
works intensively with parents, teachers and all adults. In this
exciting retreat, Christine will share her knowledge and resources
to create a memorable adventure that weaves together wonderful Anusara
inspired yoga classes for the adults and children plus Latin American
culture and myth, rainforest stories and Spanish lessons, nature,
beach, and fun.

Peggy
Profant first became passionate about yoga in 1980. She has been
influenced by the teachings of various masters in the Iyengar tradition,
traveled to India to immerse herself in Ashtanga Yoga and is now
certified as an Anusara Yoga instructor through the teachings of
John Friend. She has been an environmental educator, wilderness
guide and world traveler. Upon the birth of her first child in 1997,
Peggy gratefully began the internal adventures of being a mother,
yoga teacher and a certified massage therapist.
A
tropical vacation that tours through ancient myth and the modern
science of conservation!
We refer to Jonathon Miller Weisberger, the Steward of Guaria de
Osa, as a Pied Piper kind of character as the children love
to follow him and see what he’s up to next. He will
be our nature guide and will offer his engaging myths
and legends during the retreat. He oversaw the building of
the centre and has lived on the Osa since 2000.
Jonathon is a playful spirit who loves storytelling as an amusing
means of sharing timeless wisdom and sagacious advice with kids
and adults. His stories reflect a variety of experiences from his
10 years living in the Ecuadorian Amazon among 5 distinct indigenous
communities including the Secoya, the Huaorani, and the Kichua.
His deep love of wilderness adventure, biology, and ethnobotany
is instructive
and inspiring. Jonathon finds meaning peering into Nature’s
most mundane events, and he weaves past and present together through
mythology and science, looking toward a future that benefits from
today’s conservation efforts.
